14th Symposium of the International Diabetes Epidemiology Group (IDEG)
UBC CPD

Vancouver, British Columbia,
Dec 05, 2015 - Dec 07, 2015

This meeting will be paired with the International Diabetes Federation World Diabetes Congress, to be held in Vancouver, Nov 30-Dec 4, 2015: http://www.worlddiabetescongress.org. The previous two IDEG Symposia were held in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates in December 2011 and in Melbourne, Australia in December 2013. The purpose of the IDEG is to promote interaction among investigators worldwide who focus their research on the epidemiology of diabetes. The meeting strives to promote the attendance and education of trainees and junior faculty with an interest in this area. The IDEG has a long and distinguished history with the first meeting dating back to 1972. The most recent meeting in Melbourne was attended by participants from 27 different countries.

The meeting will address the key issues in understanding the epidemiology of diabetes. It will cover descriptive and analytic epidemiology, aiming to understand both the burden and etiology of both type type 1 and type 2 diabetes. The meeting will incorporate a training day for young investigators, in addition to the main conference. The unique aspect of the meeting is the opportunity for investigators interested in diabetes epidemiology research worldwide and representing the spectrum of career development from trainee to established investigator to interact closely due to the small meeting size, discussion sessions, and social activities. It is in the opinions of many the premier event in which to become familiar with the worldwide diabetes epidemiology community on a professional and personal level, thereby fostering important and productive exchange of ideas and future collaborations.

Physicians with interest in diabetes and diabetes epidemiology. Audience also includes other healthcare professionals/researchers and students in fields related to diabetes.
